YELLOW PERCH
RECOMMENDATIONS

The last few decades have shown a
dramatic decline in yellow perch abundance in most of the Great Lakes.
The reasons for the decline are not well understood and may vary from
lake to lake. In eastern Georgian Bay and in some parts of the North
Channel, anecdotal accounts corroborate a reduced abundance of yellow
perch compared to historical levels. With a lack of recent information
on the status of yellow perch populations in the area, the Council feels
that some effort should be made to do whatever can be done to assist in
the recovery of local perch populations.
